Not Your Grandma’s English Class!

Communicative Competence at the Core

Our lessons are structured around the development of communicative competence, encompassing grammatical, sociolinguistic, discourse, and strategic competencies. In practice, this means students:

  • Use English in context through structured dialogue, simulations, and interaction.
  • Engage in meaning-focused output, using English to achieve real-world tasks (e.g., making a phone call, presenting a proposal, writing a report).
  • Are encouraged to develop both fluency (speed and confidence) and accuracy (correctness of form) simultaneously.

Language is learned by using it, and every LinguaVo session provides a safe and supportive space to do exactly that.

Task-Based and Output-Driven Instruction

We center our classes around communicative tasks, goal-oriented language activities that mirror real-world use. These include:

  • Problem-solving scenarios
  • Role-plays and debates
  • Job interview simulations
  • Team projects and presentations

Tasks are carefully scaffolded to gradually build proficiency, moving learners from controlled practice to freer, spontaneous production. Each task includes pre-task planning, real-time language performance, and post-task reflection/feedback — a three—phases cycle shown in research to improve both competence and confidence.
